New 3DS and New 3DS XL Announced and Detailed in Australia’s First Ever Nintendo Direct

urlIn their first ever Australian-exclusive Nintendo Direct live streaming event, Nintendo of Australia announced the New 3DS and New 3DS XL. Continuing Nintendo’s annual tradition of remaking the 3DS, the New 3DS models will both be launching in Australia on the 21st November and be priced at around $219.95 and $249.95 for the XL model.

Just to put this in perspective, the 3DS has been designed 5 times in 4 years. Which seems absurd but then you have to remember that these new models have coloured buttons. Sweet fucking fanboys do those buttons look tastey or what? The answer is yes, yes they do. Never before in my life have I been so deeply moved by buttons. I have hit a new low.

But seriously there’s actually a lot more going on with this new hardware than bright colours and cynicism. The New 3DS actually has a new right thumb stick called the “C Stick” (something they should have included several thousand 3DS models ago I might add, but better late than never I suppose) and two additional shoulder buttons. The system also boasts new, snazzy, more powerful specs that I completely don’t understand because I’m a moron but apprently they improve loading times, frame rates and will also allow special, exclusive games to be developed that take advantage of them. Although it should be noted that the only New 3DS game of this nature that Nintendo have announced so far is Xenoblade Chronicles, a remake of a Wii game, that won’t be released until “unspecified 2015”. Which kind of undoes some of the national pride I felt when it was announced that Australia was getting these new models before the rest of the world (bar Japan of course).

There are a few other features regarding the 3D effect and Amiibo that I didn’t give much of a shit about but if you want the full details then watch the video below.
